Smart connect is a feature present only in Linksys smart routers. This feature will automatically assign one 5 GHz band out of two according to the needs of the device. Linksys Smart routers like EA 9200 and EA9500 have three bands. One 2.4 GHz and two 5GHz band. 2.4 GHz band is used only by the old devices which do not support 5 GHz band. Almost all new devices can use 5 GHz bands. What Smart connects does is that it smartly analyses the maximum speed each connected device can support and assign them the band which is best suited to them. Out of two 5 GHz bands, one is of high speed and other is of low speed. Devices like mobile phones are assigned low speed band and computers are assigned faster band. This will smartly distribute the load throughout the bands resulting in better performance.
