Port Forwarding, also known as Port Mapping allows external devices like devices on the internet to access different types of services hosted by you. It allows devices to pass through your firewall to access services only on that port which you have configured. Different services use different ports. Web server for example use port 80, FTP server uses port 21, different type of services use different port numbers. Setting up port forwarding on Belkin routers is now easy.
If you want to setup a web server or a FTP server, you must open the respective ports for these services so that devices over the internet can access your service. Without Port Forwarding, it is not possible.

Follow steps below to configure your router:
- Open a web-browser from the computer which is connected to the router.
- Enter the IP address of the router in the address bar of the web-browser. Default IP address is 192.168.1.1.
- Enter the username and password when prompted. Default password is blank, i.e. leave the password field blank.
- After you have successfully logged in to your web based setup page, go to Advanced Settings > Firewall.
- Under Firewall, click on Port Forwarding.
- Here you can add or delete your entries. You can configure up to 20 entries.
- Click on Save button to save your settings.
