Optimizing Your Netgear Router Wifi Network With Netgear Tech Support

So you are facing random Wi-Fi signal drops, sudden speed loss or loss in data while playing games or watching videos over internet?? It’s time to optimize your Wi-Fi network, as it is the source of the problem. There are handful of things you can do before approaching any Netgear support company to make your Wi-Fi coverage better and stronger & Let’s Start to know Optimizing your Netgear router wifi network with Netgear Tech Support.

Placement of your NETGEAR router:

Place your NETGEAR router as higher as possible far from things like fridge or microwave, as they can interfere with the signal while they are in use from the router causing issues. Also make sure that it is placed near the centre of the room not at a corner of it.

Selecting the right channel:

Living in a busy society with a lot of Wifi routers around?? You should use a channel which is least used or is not used at all. This will not let other Wi-Fi signals interfere with your network and will not cause sudden signal drops or loss in your data.

To check the channels being used around you, use Nirsoft’s WiFiInfoView. It is a free scanner which will tell you all about the Wi-Fi networks around you like their channels, MAC address, and signal strength etc.

To change your NETGEAR router’s Wifi channel, follow these steps:

  1. Open configuration page of your NETGEAR router and enter the username and password when asked.
  2. Go to wireless setting.
  3. You will find a list of different channels there.
  4. Choose one which is being least used.
  5. Click apply.

This will greatly help you and will avoid random disconnections from your Wi-Fi network.

Remember that the consequent channels do overlap a bit. So try to use channels which are at least 2 channels apart.

Choosing the right spectrum:

New NETGEAR routers support 2 spectrums which are 2.4 GHz and 5GHz.

2.4 GHz is what most people use and almost all devices support this spectrum which makes it a cluttered spectrum. Also there are only 3 non-overlapping channels in 2.4 GHz. But the 2.4GHz has the best range, this is a result of the basic characteristics that waves attenuate much faster at higher frequencies. Since it is an older technology, it is supported by almost all devices. If you have a big lonely place where there are less Wi-Fi networks to interfere, this is the spectrum to use.

5GHz on the other end is newer spectrum and is used by newer Wi-Fi technologies like AC and has more channels to play with. It has 23 non-overlapping channels which makes it preferred choice if you have a ton of Wi-Fi networks around you. But the main problem with this spectrum is that it has less range compared to 2.4GHz and not all devices support it. So, if all of your devices support this spectrum and you are in a cluttered area, this is the spectrum to use.

By following the above steps, you can greatly improve your Wi-Fi network and will enjoy a cluttered free network.
