Upstream Quality of service:

This Quality of Service feature will allow you to set high priority for gaming. If you game a lot and you use your internet connection primarily for gaming, Netgear Tech Support recommends you to turn on this feature to reduce lag when playing games online.

Do note that if you don’t use your internet for gaming, then turning this feature on will have adverse effect on other applications.

To enable this feature, follow steps below:

  1. Open a browser from the computer which is connected to the router.
  2. Enter the IP address of the router or go to www.routerlogin.com or www.routerlogin.net.
  3. Enter the username and password when prompted.
  4. Go to ADVANCED > Setup >QoS Setup > Upstream QoS.
  5. Click on Enable Upstream QoS (Optimized for Gaming) check box.
  6. You can either choose the maximum uplink bandwidth or click on Speed Test button to automatically populate it.
  7. Click on Apply button to save your settings.

Upstream QoS is now enabled on your router.

Downstream Quality of service:

This Quality of service feature assigns high priority to Internet Video streaming. This will slow down rest of your internet traffic and will give you better experience when streaming videos. Netgear Tech Support recommends not to use this feature if you do not primarily use your internet connection to stream videos from sites like YouTube, Netflix etc.

To enable this feature, follow steps below:

  1. Open a browser from the computer which is connected to the router.
  2. Enter the IP address of the router or go to www.routerlogin.com or www.routerlogin.net.
  3. Enter the username and password when prompted.
  4. Go to ADVANCED > Setup >QoS Setup > Downstream QoS.
  5. Click on Enable Downstream QoS (Improved Video Streaming)check box.
  6. If you want to auto update the streaming database, then check the Streaming Database Auto Update checkbox. Click on Manual Update button to manually update the database.
  7. Click on Apply button to save your settings.

Downstream QoS is now enabled on your router.
